Alumni, staff and students of The Chinese University of Hong Kong (CUHK)take pride in our beautiful green campus. The University is committed to preserving plants, birds and the ecological environment in which trees, flowers and medicinal plants are planted in many places on campus with a diversified collection of butterflies, dragonflies, amphibians and animals.
Radiated from the Golden Jubilee Garden, a new landmark of CUHK located in central campus between Sir Run Run Shaw Hall and Y C Liang Hall in celebration of our 50th anniversary in 2013, the Caring Alumni EcoCampus Trail connects the nine colleges with the central campus and the Graduate School, and aims at educating the general public about our green campus.
To signify the unfailing support and care of our alumni towards CUHK, alumni, staff, students and friends are welcome to adopt plaques placed at over 300 different positions along the Trail. The locations and the species featured have been endorsed by the respective colleges and the Graduate School. Each plaque, in the form of tree tag or pole, shows a fauna or tree species on campus through the QR code. A donation level of HK$30,000 is sought for each plaque. All donations will be contributing to the CUHK Golden Jubilee Scholarships and Bursaries Fund, for qualified and needy students of CUHK to enable them to complete their education and explore the world in any horizon through going exchange and joining internship programme during their study in CUHK. (Donations generated from plaques in the territory of the colleges and Graduate School section of the central campus will contribute to scholarships and bursaries for the respective college/school.)
As a token of appreciation, the donor name will be engraved on the plaque. This campaign is particularly meaningful to our alumni as it provides you with a unique opportunity to leave your legacy to your alma mater and at the same time support the University’s effort to preserve a green campus and benefit your junior fellow students as well.

The celebrated beauty of our campus is heaped with many treasured memories of our alumni, students and staff.
Built on the hillside, the CUHK campus is embraced by mountains. Water lies beneath the mountains, and, beyond water, mountains stand tall. Our beautiful campus is the works of several decades on bald mountains. Over 70 per cent of the 137-hectare campus is now covered by vegetation, which is a famous haven for many varieties of flora and fauna which great care has been taken to protect and enhance. The University is home to over 200 plant species including the majority of Hong Kong’s most common trees and many rare ones.
The lush vegetation plays host to migrant birds passing through in spring and autumn from northern lands in winter. CUHK is also home to many species of local birds. A total of 131 bird species have been recorded on campus in 2003, representing about 30 per cent of the 448 species on the Hong Kong list. A stroll through a lily pond, rare trees, a Chinese pavilion, monastic courtyards, or award-winning architecture, various kinds of butterflies, dragonflies and many other insects are sighted. Creatures that make occasional appearances on campus include squirrels, monkeys, feral cats and dogs.
Please finish selection within 15 minutes. Otherwise, selected plaques will be released when time is expired.
